Dr. Ronnie Floyd has been a pastor for 40 years. His experience, wisdom, and passion for God make him a powerful proclaimer of God’s Word. He teaches principles from the Bible that encourages and uplifts thousands of people all over the world via TV, the Internet, podcasts, radio, speaking engagements, and books.
Since 1986, Pastor Floyd has served as the Senior Pastor of Cross Church, Northwest Arkansas. In June 2014, Dr. Floyd was elected President of the Southern Baptist Convention following his nomination by R. Albert Mohler Jr., President of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. In June 2015, Dr. Floyd was nominated and elected to a second term as President of the Southern Baptist Convention. His second nomination was put forth by J.D. Greear, pastor of The Summit Church in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina.
Dr. Floyd’s ministry as a local church pastor has been one of commitment to evangelism, discipleship, and the advancement of the Gospel to America and around the world. In Dr. Floyd’s 30 years of ministry in Northwest Arkansas, the church has baptized over 17,000 persons. In 2001, First Baptist Church of Springdale became a multi-campus ministry with the beginning of The Church at Pinnacle Hills. In 2010, the church changed its name to Cross Church, and in 2011, the church further expanded its ministry with the beginning of a campus in the city of Fayetteville. Thousands gather in multiple worship venues weekly. While meeting at various local sites and five campuses, the church is committed to planting churches regionally, nationally, and internationally.
Dr. Floyd is the leader, founder, and host of The Summit, the Businesspersons Luncheon of Northwest Arkansas, a weekly lunch seminar which hosts guest speakers from across the country. Each spring and fall, leaders share their insights on business, leadership, ethics, success, and life principles and values. Speakers have included John Maxwell, Former Governor Mike Huckabee, Reggie White, John Tyson, Truett Cathy, J.B. Hunt and many others, including Dr. Floyd himself. The Summit currently reaches 500 business people each week.
In addition to his leadership of Cross Church, Dr. Floyd has been a strategic leader in the Southern Baptist Convention for decades, serving throughout the denomination he loves in keeping with his commitment to invest in others to win the world for Christ. Especially in the last seven years, Dr. Floyd has led Cross Church to:
Invest in missions. Last year, Cross Church contributed over $700,000 to the Cooperative Program. Cross Church ranks number one in the state of Arkansas and number 18 in the nation in total giving to the Cooperative Program of the nearly 50,000 churches of the SBC. Dr. Floyd led the SBC’s Great Commission Resurgence Task Force with its 2010 report resulting in dramatic efforts to penetrate lostness in America and across the globe. He serves as Lead Pastor and Strategist of SEND North America, the North America Mission Board’s major church-planting strategy resulting from the GCRTF.
Invest in pastors. Dr. Floyd commits significant time to helping fellow pastors of all sizes of churches in order to advance the Kingdom of God. In October, 2013 he began to lead, along with other pastors, a national Call to Pray initiative, with hundreds of Southern Baptist pastors attending, all for the purpose of praying for spiritual awakening in our churches and revival in our nation. Dr. Floyd is especially committed to investing in younger leaders as demonstrated by the establishment in 2013 of the Cross School of Ministry, a one-year ministry resident program.
Invest in laypeople. Dr. Floyd is currently serving as the General Editor of LifeWay's Bible Studies for Life Curriculum Series, which is used presently by over 150,000 Small Groups from over 30,000 Southern Baptist and other churches.
Invest in hurting people. Compelled to act in response to the plight of persons struggling with mental health challenges, Dr. Floyd introduced a motion and resolution during the 2013 Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting seeking to draw attention to and focus resources on helping hurting people.
Beyond his church and denomination, Pastor Floyd has spoken at many national and international conferences such as Promise Keepers and, has been featured on numerous television and radio programs including Focus on the Family. Pastor Floyd has authored 20 books including The Power of Prayer and Fasting, revised and expanded, 10 Things Every Minister Needs to Know, and Our Last Great Hope: Awakening the Great Commission. His new book, FORWARD: 7 Distinguishing Marks For Future Leaders, was released June 1, 2015.
Pastor Floyd’s proudest accomplishments stem from his personal life. He and his wife, Jeana, have been married for 39 years. They have two sons, Josh and Nick. Josh is married to Kate, and they have three sons, Peyton, Parker, and Jack. Nick is married to Meredith, and they have three daughters, Reese, Norah, and Maya and a son, Beckham.
